As a Winnipeg interior decorator, I often have the privilege of working within the homes and offices of local business owners. So after working on their home, I was asked by the owners of this Winnipeg logistics company to do a color scheme for their office.
For this project many factors needed to be taken into consideration. These factors were as follows:
- With the majority of staff being men, it was important to ensure that any colors chosen for the new scheme would be more masculine.
- There was a lot of existing furniture pieces that were still in good shape. The finish of most of the furnishings consisted of unpaintable hard laminate surfaces, so any wall colors selected had to work with a variety of wood finishes.
- The men really liked the oak trim surrounding the windows and doors. Personally I thought they would look better painted, but they were the ones who had to work in the space. The owner also really liked dark flooring, so we managed to find a darker floor that seemed to work well with the variety of wood finishes that needed to be taken into consideration.
- Because the garage was located next to the office area colors needed to be selected that would hide any grease or dirt that might be tracked through.
To satisfy the owner’s desire to have a dark floor, a durable dark wood laminate was selected. The color of the floor pulled on the dark veins with in the oak trim. So the two woods married well together, and the employees were able to keep their oak trim while the owner had the opportunity to select a dark floor in which they really liked.
A light neutral was selected for the majority of walls that worked well with the dark floor and pulled on its colors. A tried a true deep wall color, Benjamin Moore’s Willow was selected for the main feature wall in each office with in the facility. Willow worked wonderfully with the floor and it did not seem to matter the color of the office furniture, whether it was oak, cherry, etc the Willow color worked well to add richness and depth to each office space.
